Summer!!!!!!

Well college is finished, results are out (everything passed - 2nd year here I come =D can't wait)
No college projects to update this blog with however I have been doing a bit of work with the Ennis Street Festival. I created an information poster for them, brochure pages and then edited images for them to put in a slideshow on their website.
Here are some pics: =)

Working in 3D

Following my mind maps and thumbnail sketches, I began to work in 3D exploring Gaga's outrageous style and basically OTT nature! From researching the crazy lady, It was clear that her style was most notable. Her dresses hats shoes and even her constantly changing hair are all big and bold! but most of all they're extremely impractical - so my dinner service could be impractical, unusable more statement pieces. Beauty and style OVER function?

Adding feathers to plate, glitter - imagine putting food on the feathery surface!

Plate covered in glitter

A wine cup covered with feathers -

A miniature tea set filled with glitter - Gaga is known for having a teacup on chat shows etc. however this tea set is just too small for Ms Gaga - her pieces would have to be more extravagant!

I had a go at making my own dinner set using chicken wire and paper mache  ... however I didn't like how that was turning on so swiftly moved on!
I Spraypainted the packaging of a plastic tea set gold.  It's a double take as one wonders whether this is the hollow of the packaging or the round? doe that make sense?

Trapping glitter in latex - creating a new material

Covering cutlery in the same confetti glitter - slightly garish looking at the glitter didn't stick well - not too happy with this piece.

Melting shot glasses - creating different shapes  (above and below)

Studded napkin - using butterfly clips, I decorated an old paper napkin. Lady Gaga is symbolic of studs and embellishment. I really like this piece, however when it came to the final place setting it didn't make the cut! =(

Close up of studs

MORE glitter

Trapping chicken wire in latex and glitter - I had the idea of creating a service entirely of chicken wire trapped in resin with the jagged edges hanging out - completely impractical and in fact painful if it was to be used. However the process would have been lengthy and I couldn't guarantee I could get the exact effect I wanted within the short space of time. So I attempted to do a sample using the latex above.

Moving on to my final pieces:
Cutlery covered in fine glitter - stays on better.

Cup covered in jewels and sequins

Typographic plate - i wrote onto it using Gaga's lyrics and  quotes and words describing her.  Took a bit of work to be so neat with my writing =P But overall Im happy with the finished result. I also made an accompanying side plate.

Celebrity Place Settings

Our most recent project is to design a place setting for a celeb. I've been given Lady Gaga!
The setting cannot have her name on it so I have to create a setting suitable to her personality or traits so the viewer can guess who she is!
RIght now Ive just been working on mind maps and sketching some ideas. Ill post up about these soon and attach some pics =)

For the moment, here are some pictures of the crazy lady:

A lot of her dress and shoes are basically crazy but completely impractical. They're made up of extreme curves and shapes , i think this would be quite interesting to bring to my dinner service if the pieces were strange and impractical. If they were rendered useless through there design =)

the infamous meat dress ....

Logo Stationary

For the project we had to create a set of stationary including a letterhead, a business card and a compliment  slip. On all these products we have to place our logo. Consistency is important and our logo has to appear in the same way.

I started off creating business cards and then moved on to creating sets of stationary:
Plain Business Card with logo off-centre

Letterhead - with true logo at top left and opaque enlarged logo at bottom.  - I was advised to stay away from this design however as the enlarged opaque 'e' was seen more as decoration.

matching compliment slip.
